SS-31, also known as elamipretide (or MTP-131/Bendavia), is a synthetic, water-soluble tetrapeptide that acts as a mitochondria-targeting antioxidant. It protects mitochondria—the cell’s powerhouses—by binding to cardiolipin, maintaining cellular energy (ATP) production, and reducing oxidative stress. It is used to treat diseases related to mitochondrial dysfunction.
